My Flowerhorn Ivy usually has a light grayish base color with bright blue patterns. I have noticed that sometimes her base color is pretty much black then eventually it will go back to normal. Is there a reason this is happening? I checked my water and everything is in range. I have been keeping the lights on for less hours until I get the algae under control. Idk if this has anything to do with it or not. I would love to her your opinions on why this may be happening

get rid of the algae. Keep water clear. I think she's not feeling well

We breed Flowerhorns. From my experience when sick they lose most of there color. When stressed they turn very dark.

Yours looks stressed out. I wouldn't say sick.

Would low oxygen cause this?

She isn't stressed or sick trust me, she is in breeding mode, ready to lay, female FH will turn dark almost black when ready to breed even without a male

Her tube was out in the top pics and this was about 2 weeks ago and her color were normal. I thought she would lay eggs but she never did. Now her rube is pretty much all the way in and her base color is darker. She has not loss any of her blue color it is just that her base color is darker. She is acting normal, eating well and swimming around. She will come to the glass when I sit on the sofa and that's why she was so still for that pic

No that's not breeding colors. Big difference. Their top head will turn white and double row will come out. But if she's acting normal then maybe she's trying to lay low by blending into the gravels. Maybe she's scared of something

What could she be scared of she is the only one in the tank. She don't appear to be scared of me because whenever I approach the tank she comes to the front to show off
