hey guys about 11 months ago my symphilium cross breaded with a flowerhorn i artificialy hatched half of the batch and left the other half with the parents now the ones i artificaly hatched are alot smaller then the ones i left with the parents and have a much very very slower growth rate i have 20 left now the biggest 1 is about 9 to 11 inch's and it was left with parents the smallest is about 2 inch's if that and it was artificaly breaded my question is. is that unuasauly or normal they all look healthy no defects i can see all eat normaly or did i do something wrong ?

Normally if they are raised by the parents they grow faster. I read in a book somewhere that red devils produce slime or whatever similar to discus milk that fry can eat and flowerhorns have red devil in them so maybe the ones raised by the parents got an advantage because they ate flowerhorn slime? But Im probably wrong :nilly:

yeah ok there is diffinatly somthing becuase i cannot think of anything else might be selling them anyways soon prob just give the juvinils away but sell my symphililum should get at least 80 for him its s shame i strill havent got the flowerhorn he breeded with a huge crayfish decided she would be a good meal when we changed her tanks to my mates tank cuase we where trying to breed her again with a red devil and it was working till the crayfish thought diffrant

yeah will do tonight the juvinil's of the symphilum has very nice colour changes depending on there mood they can be solid black to pale white to like a yellow and red with solid black stripes also have big mood swings 1 minute be very friendly next thing u know its chaos's they all live together and gang up on the weakest fish it seems or the 1 trying to take terrotory majority of the time they are placid with each otehr witch is very odd considering bloodline

thanks thinking of selling the symphilium and giveing the offspring away not 100% certain yet there fighting is slowly geting worse only a matter of time before they all get sluaghted all depends if i get this new tank today or not hopefully drops his price to what i can afford

Yeah, I think this is true. THere's a breeding pair of Red Devils at my work, the first few weeks I saw babies eating slime off the father in a manner similar to discus. I haven't found any literature to back this up but from experience it seems to be true. I have also heard that babies grow better with their parents, though I've always let them do it themselves, so no counter argument to speak of.

But if your thinkin of giving some of those babies away, dude let me know. FH x Synsipillum is a great cross.

you should see there colours when there really pist off ill try take a photo next time they get angry there colour change never seen any other fish go so vibrant
