Hey, i'm kinda new to flowerhorns, I've had mine for about 3 weeks now. I've been feeding my FH the GrandSumo Red pellets, so far that's all i've been feeding it, i just got some ChingMix in and it doesn't eat those pellets, is there anyone having the same results with ChingMix? So far I just keep feeding him GrandSumo pellets. I'll post pics of him hopefully soon because I can't tell if it's a male or female, i hope it's a male, it only about 3.5 inches, but yeah just wondering if for now it's ok to just feed it GrandSumo Red Pellets.

Oh another concern I have is that for some reason since I bought my FH, it just hides under the driftwood, kinda cleared out some gravel, it comes out to eat, but darts back under the driftwood. Put in a tilapia to help to bring it out more which it did but over the next couple days ended up killing the tilapia.

heres my chingmix baby xynier hes 3-3.5". if your after the head i suggest chingmix head booster SP80 theres also the chingmix maxima i think, i havent tried it yet but it enhance the head and color. but really its always on the genes and how your FH absorb the nutrients of a specific pellet.

for example

baby one improves drastically on chingmix but baby two does not
baby two improves drastically on XO humpy head but baby one does not.

you get my point man? anyway kindly post a pic of your FH so we can comment on it.

I'll try to get a pic, he/she so skiddish i can't get a good pic. mine looks almost exactly like yours, but from the looks of it i'm thinking mine is a female because the head on mine isn't as noticable as yours, but the color and patterns are very similar. Did your FH eat the chingmix right away? mines just spits it out, i have the SP80 and the Maxima. I put both of the bags together so i can feed both pellets, but so far my Fh just eats the GrandSumo Red pellets.

just an FYI. The old ching had a problem with fish losing pearls feeding straight headbooster diet. The new spk80 has not shown this problem at all, but I would still use the maxima with the headbooster, or use annother pellet to supplement the headbooster. Variety is key IMO.

does your fish has any plums stretch up to the dorsal fins? if so its a female. male dont have those but this method is not a 100% sure venting will be though.

plum stretch meaning the dark stripes that appear? I'm not sure i'll have to check when i get home...
