thanks for reply never heard of fish cancer, his lip has swollen quite a bit today, is there anything i can do besides plenty water changes?? or just cross my fingers. thanks ste

A friend who works at a local lfs and loves hybrids shared with me recently that he's been seeing a LOT of this among Flowerhorns and some other hybrid cichlids. It starts exactly as you describe, then develops to what looks like popeye, and if it goes beyond that, open sores develop.

He's been able to stop it several times with methylene blue and salt, but said he's been seeing it more and more.

thanks for your advice, i've been and got some methylene blue and treated it today so fingers crossed, worth a shot as its not shown any improvement in couple of weeks. it also had a bit of popeye at begining but eye is fine now. ste

Just a heads up, if you treated your tank with methylene blue, your beneficial bacteria is likely dead.

i've never used the blue before, cant believe how blue its made the tank. will it gradually fade?? or just from water changes? i have another tank with my terror in so i;ll be able to take bacteria from that, would that work? thanks

I haven't used it myself but if memory serves it stays blue until water changes remove it. I'll ask my friend what he does.

hi, my flowerhorn seems to have developed a few red sores to add to his troubles now 2 even in his mouth, its not looking great, he's still eating a bit, a little lathargic though, not the glass banger he normally is. his red cheek is like a hole in the side of his face now aswell. how would i know if he was in pain. i'd assume he wouldnt eat?????
