3rd attempt for the eggs to hatch and they have all been engulfed in fungus, not sure if its cause they have no idea what they are doing or male is infertile.they prefer this pvc pipe to lay them in which i would think would be poor water flow idk though im no expert.should i make em use a flowerpot instead for better water flow? maybe add an airstone with it

I would just take out anything you don’t wan them using. You could take out the pvc pipe and flower pot. Make them use a flat rock or flat dish. That way water flow can be canceled out as a problem.

At what point are the eggs getting covered in fungus? Is it while it’s too early to see if they have been fertilized?

Salt is my go-to if I see eggs are being overwhelmed by fungus. I put in half the dose you’d use if treating ich a day before or the day they spawn. It was the only thing that helped a female gt of mine that had chronic problems with getting fungus eggs. Not sure why, but she has been the only one I’ve ever had to do that for.

um prolly day 4 is when the fungus shows up,shes getting better at getting rid of the bad eggs,im thinking the pvc pipe creates dead spots in the water but not sure.shes still guarding the site even now pretty aggressively and has dug a few pits outside the pipe and keeps going back and forth from the pipe to these pits as well as shoveling more gravel out from time to time,im thinking there might be some wigglers just due to this behavior since normally she just cleans the site of fungus eggs and 2 weeks later she tries to spawn again...idk how to force them to use another object to spawn in since i had a flower pot in before which she refused to use and when i put the pipe in 2 days later there were eggs, she likes that pvc pipe quite a bit..this is spawn attempt # 3 and the amount of eggs plus how fast they get overrun with fungus seems to be getting noticably better.my red devil pair is on the other side of the divider with a batch of fry atm kinda doing somewhat of an experiment to help curb mate aggression, let them take aggression out at the divider to the other pair.seems to have worked since hes treating the female much better this time around.this is batch #2 of fry for them so far

Her behavior sounds like she has wigglers and the timing sounds right for hatching. Keep an eye out.

forcing them to use something else might mean the female going a lot longer before spawning. This can be dangerous if the male is already very pushy with her. He might kill her if he gets too frustrated waiting. So you’d have to be ready to take action if things start going bad. If they are already in a reduced area from the tank being divided it might be a bad idea.

If I were you I’d go the salt route first, if they don’t have fry this time.

she kinda runs the show and is the aggressor between the two of them.their pairing was easy going and was complete within an hour.she was always a somewhat peaceful communtiy fish but now has changed colors and is very aggressive all of the time especially with eggs.the male is pretty calm for a flowerhorn, not the typical attitude.doesnt seem to beat on the female ever.she beats up on him though if their are eggs.but yea i keep a close eye on them looking for any changes in behavior or fin/scale damage.this divided tank thing was a means to an end anyway just kinda wanted to see if i could get them to both spawn in the same tank and would it curb aggression towards the mates since the red devil male tends to beat on the female from time to time
