It all depends on the size of the fish. Juvies get food 2-3 times a day. If 8" or more, once a day. As far as the kok goes, it's genetics. Either the fish is gonna have a big kok or its not. High quality food will help you maximize the potential of the kok, but again it's mainly genetics.

How much food am I suppose to feed it? Until the stomach bulges out or just a few pieces?

I usually feed mines for a good 5 minutes before i leave to work. I just sit there and keep feeding until i gotta go LOL. Then again they ain't getting fed again till i come home so i give them as much as i can until i leave.

Anymore ideas? Also, what does it mean when my fh's stomach is bulging out even though I haven't fed it yet? Thanks.

Did you recently acquire this flowerhorn? perhaps even from over-seas?
Reason I ask is because an indication of a bulging stomach from not eating could mean worms/parasites.
A lot of flowerhorns coming from overseas need to be de-wormed initially. Either with epsom salt treatment or metro.

Lets hope he's healthy but as far as eating, dont worry about it too much, flowerhorns grow at a steady pace.
I would recommend NLS thera A; his health is more important than his kok :)

Okay thanks for the replies everyone. I have two last question. Do I feed my fh for 5 min like lidofish said or how much? And when food starts coming of it's gills, does it mean that they are full?
