My thoughts,
I have purchased a few nice flowerhorns on aquabid and from some well known websites. Mostly males and a few females with the glitter of hope to breed and of course, cash in on some. NONE of the females have laid eggs. Do you guys think some people, especially the ones making a living on selling top quality flowerhorns feed them something or mess with their physical anatomy to make them unfertile? Any stories, any evidence anything at all? I just don't want to waste my time and of course hundreds of dollars finding a fertile pair of Flowerhorns from these guys that might not even exist at all.
with that said, i'm looking for a truely fertile red female, preferrably from someone on this site, and not thailand (no offense).

thanks guys, happy holidays!

I don't want to rain on your parade but people have been saying since the first flowerhorns were brought in (over 10 yrs ago) that when spawning occurs no wigglers are produced. Rumors like this, different species involved, always show up when someone keeping them are unsuccessful at breeding. Maybe they just DON'T breed successfully.

i think proper conditioning of your FH is needed to have a succesfull breeding

I have seen 2 mature FH(divided) with a tank full of fry.

Some people say that male blood parrots are infertile becuase the breeders use a chemical or some other treatment on them. I am not sure but I have read about it on the net. So, maby this is the case with some FH too.

there are many factors here.

proper conditioning.

maturity .

stress

water condition

how long have you have them.

dont be too eager to breed.

lastly, before you purchase fishes that you want to breed, i think it would be better that you purchase female and male fishes that are proven.

i'm not concluding that people tamper with the flowerhorns fertilization just taking it into consideration. My males are all over 9" and the two females are about 7-8". As for conditions,
i've successfully bred doviis, devils, fasciatus and others. I SINCERELY HOPE i'm wrong
but thought i'd ask to see if others knew anything.

Someone sell me a nice fertile female :)

I've seen a lot of FH in the Houston area. Some Blood Parrots too. I've never seen the wigglers. Granted most here just want big honking fish, not babies. What you've seen is the exception, not the rule.

Question, what did the babies look like when they grew?? Dan

What do you mean I seen the exception and not the rule?

The babies are turning out to look just like there parents. I have 4 of them (my first hybrids:D). His two males (one of them is the father of my fish) have spawned with a handful of females over the past 2 years and probably have upwards of 10,000 fry between the two of them. I will get some pictures of the babies soon. I got them at about a 1/2".
