Flowerhorn gender

Just got this flowerhorn , is this a female?

Looks like a possibly sick male. His stomach looks bloated and that white protrusion from his anus might be the lining of his intestines. He also looks very black in color which is a sign of a stressed flowerhorn.

Good observation man. It’s actually covered in ich. I just got it yesterday with a tank I purchased. Currently getting treated for ich and internal parasites.

I was testing how much it can eat,so it’s a bit chunky.

My other cichlids, like vieja get very dark when they are ready to lay. This looks like a egg tube to me. The picture is deceiving since the light is shining from back. It’s not that white or transparent. The tip is wide not pointed and it’s dropped even lower today. The kok is what’s throwing me off, thus the post.

I’ll say it’s a female cuz I’ve had FHs with vent prolapse and yours look like it’s ready to spawn. Sudden change in temp can induce spawning...which can explain the ich as well. Dark background and substrate is likely why it is dark.

Fisheats beautiful animals. My flowerhorn was in s 20gal half filled with no heater. I think it looked pretty good considering. Unfortunately the only tank open was this 80 with the black back. It’s now at 82degrees . If I find eggs, I’d be very happy.

DUDE NICEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!! Female with kok like that can produce incredible offspring. Please breed her to a monster kok SRD or KK. I know you know how rare females like this are.
