Hi- my fh grew very fast in my 75g from about 2" to around 8 right now. In December it will be a year that I've owned and it seems that his growth has greatly slowed or stopped around the 8" mark. Not a small fish but nowhere near the 12" that they are said to reach. I've heard that they reach their max growth in 1 year. Anyone have experience that they sometimes don't grow bigger or will it continue to grow slowly after the first year?

I've not had any personal experience my FH reaching up to 8", but have heard many times that their growth is being slower when reaching size of 5-6".
8" is not bad though.. Would you like to share some pics here ?
Thanks!

They never stop growing but growth is slowed after about 10 months. The quality of care during the early stages of life greatly influences adult size. Slower growth is actually preferred if you want a long living fh so just keep providing excellent care and your fh will continue to grow.

Aquatic Aggression Aquatic Aggression 100% agree with you.. The TLC given in earlier ages turns out the best when adult!
Also, the normal pallets, and snacks (Shrimp and Bloodworms, and Krill - All dried) are the best for their growth rather than Artificial food with color and unnecessary protein which eventually shorten the life.. 40-48% protein is the best IMO...

The food plays the key role in growth so does water and clean environment..
