I arranged a swap with some guy, I traded him alot of small American cichlids for his huge flowerhorn, put it in a tank itself and the next day it was covered in ich, none of my other tanks are affected so it must have had it when I got it. I'm using salt and heat (temp is 86 and I'm at 4 tbsp of ocean salt, not marine salt, and it has only got worse so far) but there is also a problem with how it swims. He always stays at the top with his head above the water level, not his mouth though he's breathing fine, he tries to swim around and ends up on his side or upside down, its like he has no control of where he's going.. Any ideas? Hate seeing him suffer like this.

Did you increase aeration after you raised the temp? It could be temperature related, so reduce temp to 82F and see if that helps. Or He might have also succumbed to a secondary bacterial infection as a result of the ich. What's the ph of the tank?

Temp is 86.2, pH is 7.5, lowered the water level to let both filters splash onto the surface. He had these swimming problems before I raised the temperature so it can't be temperature related..

You could try Seachem Kanaplex. Either mix it into the food with Seachem focus if it is eating or put directly into the water.

I think it your water bro, Did you set up new water for it or it from your previously cichlids water?

It was half of my old water, I emptied half of the water to catch the old fish, filled it back up then added the flowerhorn a couple of hours later. Why would my water cause these problems? Ammonia and nitrite are 0 and nitrates never get over 30ppm, usually lower as I usually do a 25% water change in that tank every 2 days.

Flowerhorn usually very strong with whatever water you put it in as long it have some oxygen from air stone then it will live, you might want to join the flowerhorn facebook ask some of those guys have more experience then me on that sickness of your fish, I have only six years experience with FH but the only thing experience with is Duck lip
