Hi, I just a got a new flowerhorn, he's about an inch, currently in a 10 gallon. How do i know if I have a short body or a regular sized flowerhorn. Also how can you tell between a male and female? I have a 75 gallon tank which currently has a 5.5 inch dempsey in it. Would there be anyway that when this flowerhorn gets bigger i could house them together. I have a lot of caves/territories for these two guys spread out around the tank. Could this work or will it just become a death arena? thanks

Visually sb look different. Probably have to wait an inch or two to determine sex but post a pic and maybe someone can tell you. If it turns out female than yes there's a chance it could live with the Dempsey.

Definitely not a short body, but a very nice fish! Whether it will be able to go in with the JD just depends on the attitude of the flowerhorn.

My guess is male but that's only due to the absence of a dorsal spot. Certainly not 100%.
