Hello

I recently picked up a FH from my local lfs. Can someone help me ID? What kind it is and what gender? Does it look like it will have potential? This is my first flowerhorn and the fish had so much personality that I had to pick it up.

Thanks!

With that blotch on its dorsal fin, most likely a female so not likely to be the desired show piece with a huge kok...could make a nice breeder.

It looks male to me and has nice shape of head but that dorsal does hint female. Koky females are a good catch
Nice fish
How much ?

hmmmm thats good to know. i picked it up for $40. there were others there but they were all fairly big males (huge head) and they were all pretty pricey @ $200+. i wanted to grow one out instead of buying a already big one

oh yea i read about that, how the females have flowers on their dorsal fin, and something with the shape of their underside. maybe ill pick it up and look for myself, but ima wait for it to settle in before i stress the **** out of it by taking it out of the water to check haha..

Red dragon flowerhorn. with that dorsal spot covince me to think it as a female but tht growing kok made me think twice. it is possible for males to have a dorsal spot but most of those dorsal-spotted males tht i havr seen have very thick and stretched body markings. you'll nver know. they are hybrids. venting can only be done succesfully after it reached the 3inch mark. nice pickup btw. :D

Thanks! Yea I guess I'll have to wait till it gets older. But I'm pretty much convinced it's a female from what everyone's been telling me
