I'm new to flowerhorn cichlids and assume this is a red dragon but was unsure so figured why not ask the professional's. If possible maybe even sex if can tell. The flowerhorn and blood parrot have tried to breed 3 times now with no success making me believe the flowerhorn is female but I'm only guessing. I bought it approximately 3 months ago at about 1.5in labeled flowerhorn. Its roughly 3.5in now and slowly developing its kok.

Well first I'll say that's a very fine first Flowerhorn, congrats! As for variety, yes it's definitely got some Red Dragon blood but I'm thinking it's mixed with Kamfa or KML -- it's getting so hard to tell nowadays because they're really mixing up the lines and always experimenting. Regarding gender it looks like it might have a bit of black on the dorsal fin. can't see clearly in the pix, but my first guess would be a male. Esp. if it's got some Kamfa blood its hump won't grow as fast or as big (but that's the personal preference of some, incl. myself). Enjoy your new wet pet!

Thank you for replying and compliment of fish.its been fun and never expected it to become this pretty or to hook me this hard on this species.

This guy was in rough condition at my lfs when I got him. They was so bad that they gave me another one for free hoping i could save but hole in the head took its life. Got lucky and managed to to safely treat this one.

I'll try and get another picture of a clearer side profile. Main reason I said female was I know blood red parrot(brp) males are typically sterile and they have tried breeding numerous times with eggs dieing off. I wasnt expecting them to pair up. I bought the brp in hope's to increase head hump growth. Then they fell in love lol.

I had to delete and take 200 photos to get these so hope they help haha. Never once to stop moving on e camera comes out.
