Definitely a flowerhorn, just a run of the mill "lowgrade", doesn't mean it isn't a nice fish. I would say male based on lack of black in dorsal fin, though it will be easier to tell when he gets a little bigger.
These fish are awesome pets, tons of personality. Much more owner-interactive than many dry-land pets, and they don't get the credit they deserve from non-aquatic hobbyists. They can also live for quite a long time, 10 years and upward, and they can get to sizes of 12-15".
I see you have feeder goldfish in there with him, I would definitely advise against feeding him goldfish. They are not healthy for him, and the worst part is that most of those fish carry disease, you are very likely to introduce parasites and diseases using feeders.
