IMG_0223.JPG IMG_0224.JPG Hello,

I just bought this little guy from Petland two days ago and while I'm not really a fish person, his personality is really warming me up to them. I just wanted to see if anyone can confirm that it's actually a flowerhorn and what kind it is, and also see if the gender is able to be indentified this early in its life. If you need anymore information just let me know, thanks!

Definitely a flowerhorn, just a run of the mill "lowgrade", doesn't mean it isn't a nice fish. I would say male based on lack of black in dorsal fin, though it will be easier to tell when he gets a little bigger.
These fish are awesome pets, tons of personality. Much more owner-interactive than many dry-land pets, and they don't get the credit they deserve from non-aquatic hobbyists. They can also live for quite a long time, 10 years and upward, and they can get to sizes of 12-15".
I see you have feeder goldfish in there with him, I would definitely advise against feeding him goldfish. They are not healthy for him, and the worst part is that most of those fish carry disease, you are very likely to introduce parasites and diseases using feeders.
If you have any questions about how to take care of him don't hesitate to ask!

Red dragon flowerhorn and looks around 1.5". Without the black botch on the top fin at that size I would say a male like Gourami Swami said.

Im guessing a zhen zhou. but who knows, still too young . and +1 on the male as well. Groom him if you want the best of him. Give him his own tank and a bare tank is the best for easy maintenance. dont mix him with those small fish he will try to eat it which is not good for your fh. Enjoy caring him. Flowerhorns are great to keep :D
