thanks for the answers!
1 more question, my flowerhorn sometimes did a flip turn (u can refer to the picture below)
Is this a sign he's happy or uncomfortable?

Nice lil guy u got there man... Love his color and head size... The tear drop under his eye says ZZ blood. He is still new so there is tons of room for improvement. The best thing to do with a new FH is experiment and see what he likes... Some like bright gravel, some like bare bottom. Try a mirror for an hour a day so he thinks he has competition. Test different water temps and find out where he looks best for you. Lower temps promote more color and higher temps promote head growth. The mirror will make his head pop for you also. Dont get sucked into FLOWERHORN specific foods... Just feed him a large variety of pellets and frozen foods. Might also be a good idea to deworm him. If ya got him from overseas it is a necessity. Check for white stringy poops. Keep us updated on him.

hi, after almost 2 years this is the latest picture of my fish:), he seem very healthy but his mouth was not closing properly all this while, he was still eating perfectly fine but just never kept his mouth shutUntitled-2.png

He's a nice little fish.
The mouth issue is just a thing linked to the shortbody trait. It not the most appealing thing and something to try and eliminate through breeding but it's not going to hurt his health or anything. I bet girls like him, he looks like he's puckered up for a kiss haha

despite the way he looks, this type of fish when give the tlc to feel good, their energy is good. Come t you , eat from your hand, And they can adapt to you petting them.
one should hold back on feeding these fish too much and lack movements
But personality wise he is a great fish I know it.
