what should i look for in purchasing a flower horn? what tank size is suitable for this fish? do the size of the fish depend on what its bred from? theres one at my lfs ill post some pics up tomorrow when i go. thanks in advance
hmmmm
while picking up a FH
always pick one up with following things to remember
* has to be 3.5" or more
* pick one up whose fins are stretched and the dorsal and the anal fin are pointy and long that says its a male
* at that size they usually start getting their nuchal hump, so choose one which has a sizable hump
* look for a nice flower line
this should help you picking a nice one
or you can pick one at 1-2" and wait to get surprised as to what he may look like when he has grown a bit (thats what i did and both i picked haven't disappointed me)
a 50 gal min is a good size tank, you can get away with this for a year or so, if you see your fish having a hard time manuvering itsself in the tank, get a bigger one.
in choosing, look for specs, and a nice head. look at all the brood, youl see one that stands out.
i would get atleast 3 that intetrest you, and grow them out for like 6 months or so, and "cull" the on you dont like
i have read that FHs grow to nearly 12"+
so keeping that in mind a 75g would be the min in my opinion
i keep mine in a 95(uk)g and i still feel like he doesn't have enuff space
