I am gettig a 70-75 gallon tank. I wanted to keep a male flowerhorn. what should there ph be ,and what temp should the tank be. will they acceept chiclid pellets. how fast do they grow. how long will it take for him to get 6-8 inches, and how long will it take for him to get 11-13 inch. how aggressive are they on a scale from 1-10. 1 being a ram/butterfly chiclid and 10 being a full grown umbee or dovi.how many inches will he be when he develups a nuchul hump. what size in inches they start to become aggressive.how do you sex baby flowerhorn.how much personallety do they have. and can you share some expirience. Thanks!:grinno:

pH should be between 6.5-7.4 .... temp should be between 78-86 degrees F .... Yes, they should accept cichlid pellets unless maybe they're use to being fed something else, then it may take some time before they accept them .... Flowerhorns grow pretty fast I've heard, should be able to get 6-8 inches in about 3-6 months .... Once they hit around 8-10 inches their growth rate will slow down and might even take them a little over a year to get 11-13" .... I think as far as their aggression goes, its about an 8 .... It all depends on the fish when it will develop a nuchal hump, usually around 4"-6" they start to get one .... There isn't really a size in inches where they become aggressive because it all depends on the fish...but its said as they grow bigger they will get meaner .... I've heard they have great personalities

Great link Armand provided

Don't think you can until their around 2-4 months old

Its said if the dorsal fin of the flowerhorn has black spots, it is most likely a female

Males often have longer and more flowing anal and dorsal fins (however, theres many exceptions to this and this isn't always accurate in determining male or female)

The upper and lower lip of the adult male tend to be much thicker than females

& the most accurate means of telling a male from a female is to vent them. Which is examining the vent region of the fish to determine its sex. You will probably/most likely need to have the fish in-hand to do this. Make sure you don't examine it for minutes; it should only take about 5-15 seconds. DON'T KEEP THEM OUT OF WATER FOR MORE THAN 30 SECONDS...any longer and your taking chances. Also, its good to have a wet hand when doing this.

is there any way to make them high qailaty. the fish store I was gouing to get them at takes good care of there fish. but the breader might just give them low Quality ones. how do you tell whitch flowerhornes are higher quality. I was going to pick out the best one.

the quality of a fish is determined by 95% genetics. If the fish have low quality genes, there is no way to turn them into high quality fish by feeding them "special" food.
