My 10" flowerhorn has lost it's vibrant colors. He is still eating well, but stays near the bottom of the tank, where he previously was very active. I have noticed some white feces on occassion.

What would you suggest as a treatment for suspected intestinal parasites?

The pictures do not show the darkened color very well. The last photo is before the suspected illness.

Thanks

Raise Temp add salt and if no better change use something from the list below .And do some water changes daily like 5-10 percent using Declorinated tap water, aged is preferred and add some stresscoat to it also,

Do the water changes for like a week or atleast every other day if not everry day for a week

Do the water change and the salt and temp first before you jump to meds!!!

Metronidazole
Clout
ParaGuard
Formaline

I raised the temp. and added salt. He is still dark. I'll let you know how he progresses.

I have raised the temp, added salt, but today my flowerhorn developed a spot in the center of his head. HITH ? I hope that it does not open up!

It could be hith

HITH is caused mainly by Poor Water quality,Poor Diet with Defencies in it, There is a Theory that carbon casues it if you filter with carbon,

And it could be caused by Heximeta,

Treating here are some steps,
1) Feed a balanced and vitamin enriched diet.
2) Start doing water changes of at least 20% but not more then 50% every three days, usually 25-30% is sufficient.
3) Add 1 tbs of aquarium salt to every 5-10 gallons of water.
4) Raise the temperature in the tank to 80-82° F.
5) Remove all carbon from your filters.
6) If all else fails or for very advanced cases it will be a good idea to treat the tank for Hexamita,

remember salt stays in the water until you remove it via waterchange.

Treating for Heximeta is simple really Use MEtro+,

Also there is the Current theory,

Where a Heter or something else electrical leaks a small minute electric stream in the water,

I dont see this as one of youurs but check your heater

Unfortunately, the spot on top of my flowerhorns head opened up. Since adding salt and raising the temp., his color is better and he seems to be more active. I will continue this treatment for a few days. I can always go to metronidazole.

Thanks for your help Pout.
