They were divided up with the clay plate under the divider but I decided to see what would happen if I introduced them, and they locked lips. I think this is a good sign, right?

Also, what do I do next? Should I re-divide them after they are done?

And how long till the lip lock/courtship ritual is done? Should I be worried about the female?

Well update. They locked lips for about 30 minutes then swam around with each other for awhile but it gradually got a little violent although they still always stayed close to each other so I divided them up again. I guess we'll see.

I use a divider with a hole in it that only the female fits through. When the male gets mean the female squeezes through the hole to safety. When the female is feeling confident she will spend all her time on his side. That won't work in your case as they are almost the same size.
Keep an eye on them! If one gets backed into a corner its all over. She is a big female she might kill him.
