my sb red texas thread got derailed a bit by my smaller flowerhorns egg tube dropping. i took out the divider separating her from from my larger male. he beat her up a little bit at first so she's been hiding in a cave for a little while. he's still being pretty aggressive hopefully he'll calm down soon though.

Amazing pair! Good luck with the breeding project. Those will be some awesome fries.

update: he was not backing down on the aggression so i had to separate them again since she got her ass handed to her

alright guys did a water change first thing this morning and took the divider out again. going for the third attempt now since the female put on a little size. so far it looks like he's up to his usual ways of keeping her hiding in the cave. as much as i hate fake plants i might have to get a few to break up the line of sight a little more when i run out to the pet store later.

Great looking pair! When breeding, there are lots of little tricks I use.

One trick is to put another male target fish through a divider for the pair to put their attention on.

Is the females tube dropped all the way down? When the pair are divided in the same tank, the fish will usually swim towards each other and do a little head shake if they are both ready to spawn. Please keep us updated on this breeding project. I would love to see how the fry turn out!

i've noticed the little head shake and seen her tube all the way down a few times now he just gets way more aggressive as soon as i take out the divider. i may try that trick with my big male red ingot before i spend money on a bunch of fake plants but i do wanna try a couple flower pots in there for extra cover as well.
