I'm getting my first flowerhorn here in a couple weeks so I'm starting to get his aquarium going. My question is do flowerhorns prefer softer or harder water? My pH is at 8.4 and wasn't sure if that'll be too hard for the fish. I have an RO system so I could bring it down if needed to.

From my experience and from what people say 7-8 is what the ideal PH should be. Flowerhorn are hardy fish though but I would keep it below 8 and raise it if you need to. Mine spiked to 8.5 before and I was fine I reduced it.

Mine breed at 7-8 all the time.
