Flowerhorn scared???

I recently moved my FH into a 20 long by himself to pump him up, and he is constantly hiding and dark. What can I do to get him to lighten up???

he is not displaying because he is all alone

throw some dither fish in there

if he is in a 20 chances are it is a tiny fish. when it gets any size at all it will have a big personality.

I agree with both of the above posts. your best bet to see more activity out of him is to move him to a slightly larger tank (a 30 long would be great) with some hiding places and dithers. once he feels comfortable in the tank he'll become more active and show better colors.
