how do you tell the difference between male and female flowerhorns? i have a flowerhorn and i think it might be a red pearl, not really sure but looks like the pics i've seen of red pearls.......it has really long dorsal and anal fin streamers and seems brightly colored to me but it doesn't have a big hump on his head so i'm not sure what it is? it's like 5-6 in. long can anyone help me out?

can you post a pic
that could help a lot
streamers aren't always a correct way to specify whether its a male or female
nor is the nuchal hump
venting is the best way to tell

females vent is more rounded kinda, the males will have a vv at the tip of their vent in my experience. The black spot on the dorsal is not a good way to tell if it's female. I have had 2 males with the same black spot. Males tend to have kok, and females rarely have large kok, but sometimes will, or they will have a lil hump. Females "snouts" are often longer, and body is more elongated on the males I think. Females are more rounder.
