several reasons- 1 the are very easy to use, 2 they are very inexpensive, 3 because of these you have options to run more tanks and flowerhorn can be very addicting once you have caught the bug, 4 many fh keepers are beginner hobbyists so the first two make this option very appealing, and 5 flowerhorns for some reason enjoy the less then perfect water parameters produced by using this type of filtration methods (example they do well in somewhat clam stagnate pond like conditions). However they also enjoy and do well in tanks with bigger and better filtration options and in tanks with currents produced by powerheads but the tanks should be lager
