Dear Friends ,,,

Can you great geniuses out there, just clarify some of my doubts that I have regarding these fishes.

I have a ZZ RD FH, in my tank. It has been confimed to be a male from this community itself……..it is about 6inches in length frm mouth to tail.
I wanted to breed this FH with a BParrot. Have just ordered 1 female.
There are some other fishes also in the tank…
1. is it necessary to move these fish out of the tank, for getting the breed done ????
2. what is the normal lifespan of a FH??
3. what is the best fish to breed with a FH??
4. Is there any age or a particular season in a year that they breed, (or are they always ready to do the job)
5. Is there no sex,,, as in sex that they do to get frys (just a logical question, always was eager to know this)
6. What is the full form of IMO, I see everywhere in this community…
7. Is there anything to do,,, if the FH is going through WHITE EXCRETA
8. What are the other good tankmates for this fish………how many fishes will go into a 72litres tank????
9. Anyone there who has fed ARTEMIA to their FH ????
10. Anyone here in Dubai,,,,, can you tel me where do u actually get these CM & GS here for the FH’s/// or are they not being imported to DUBAI ????

Any answers are welcome….. all are not required……
I guess thse are doubts with some other fans also…….

THANX IN ADVANCE TO ALL,,,,,,,,,

TAKE CARE

dang that a lot of questions ! while , i'm no genius , i will say that 72 liters , if i'm not mistaken , is about 20 gallons and thats way too small for even 1 flowerhorn .
as for the white excretion , it is a common parasitic disease hexamita and should be treated with anti-parasite medication .

1. is it necessary to move these fish out of the tank, for getting the breed done ????
No but if you leave them in there is a big risk of them getting killed.
2. what is the normal lifespan of a FH??
Supposedly 2-3 years :(
3. what is the best fish to breed with a FH??
Another flowerhorn, texas, or parrot of some kind
4. Is there any age or a particular season in a year that they breed, (or are they always ready to do the job)
All year round, yours should be old enough to breed now or in a month or two
5. Is there no sex,,, as in sex that they do to get frys (just a logical question, always was eager to know this)
Female lays eggs and male swims over and fertilizes them
6. What is the full form of IMO, I see everywhere in this community…
????
7. Is there anything to do,,, if the FH is going through WHITE EXCRETA
Not sure what you are talking about
8. What are the other good tankmates for this fish………how many fishes will go into a 72litres tank????
That is a 20 gallon tank and is too small for a flowerhorn, they need a 300 liter tank or 75 gallons.
9. Anyone there who has fed ARTEMIA to their FH ????
????
10. Anyone here in Dubai,,,,, can you tel me where do u actually get these CM & GS here for the FH’s/// or are they not being imported to DUBAI ????
Don't know

dear mr. papawoody,

THANX for that man.....
i was advised by others to combine all the questions and bombard it......

OTHER ANSWERS ARE AS WELL AWAITED.......

1. is it necessary to move these fish out of the tank, for getting the breed done ????
Yes, if you want your other fish to stay alive.
2. what is the normal lifespan of a FH??
8 years is the supposed max, but many don't make it that long.
3. what is the best fish to breed with a FH??
Another Flowerhorn, but breed with whatever you like.
4. Is there any age or a particular season in a year that they breed, (or are they always ready to do the job)
Well with Kamfas and etc it takes longer than a year for them to reproduce(if they're even fertile) while ZZ's can breed at 3 inches(females) and 6inches(males)
5. Is there no sex,,, as in sex that they do to get frys (just a logical question, always was eager to know this)
Flowerhorns don't have "sex" LOL, the female just lays eggs and the male jizz's over the eggs.
6. What is the full form of IMO, I see everywhere in this community…
IMO = In my opinion.
7. Is there anything to do,,, if the FH is going through WHITE EXCRETA
White poop could be a sign of hex, Pristine water and Metro is a common method of treating it.
8. What are the other good tankmates for this fish………how many fishes will go into a 72litres tank????
I'm not to sure how much 72liters is, but the best tank mate for a flowerhorn is more water. You could get by with a pleco or blood parrot, but I wouldn't try it lol.
9. Anyone there who has fed ARTEMIA to their FH ????
Brine Shrimp?
10. Anyone here in Dubai,,,,, can you tel me where do u actually get these CM & GS here for the FH’s/// or are they not being imported to DUBAI ????
Not a clue x.x

HTH's.

Others have covered most of the answers. I would like also to re-emphasize that the very first thing you need to spend your money on is a much bigger tank. Even if you just want to keep your one flowerhorn and allow it to grow into a happy, healthy adult.
Only once you have a 75+ gallon tank could you think about keeping and breeding your flowerhorn.
Even at the moment, you will probably be starting to stunt your own flowerhorn, which means that it will not be growing as well as it would in a larger tank.

Ok, got that out of the way.

Artemia = brine shrimp. THe americans don't seem to use the term artemia much, so many are not familiar with it. Some folks have, and do, feed their FH's artemia, but I would not advise it, as there would probably be quite a lot of waste to foul your water.

As for white poo. Often, if only temporary, it can be just due to what you fed your fish. If you feed your FH a load of veg, it will do green poo. If you feed it a load of clear, white food (prawns?) then it may do some very light coloured poo for a while. If the white/clear poo is longer term then it almost certainly indicates intestinal disease of some sort. You could treat with metronidazole and/or flubendazole, whichever you can get in your country.

One other essential if ever thinking of breeding FH's is a divider. You can't just stick a male and a female into a tank and expect them to love each other and start breeding. Often one has to place the two fish in one tank, the oppposite sides of a divider for them to get used to each other, without killing each other.
Also, one may need to separate after breeding due to aggression.
Also, you need to think of a separate grow-out tank where these young fry might survive. If you just leave them in with the parents then the parents will almost certainly just turn on them and eat them all at some point, after a few weeks.

Sounds to me like you haven't been doing your research. Sorry if I sound mean or burst your bubble etc. But I highly advise you to do some research around and I'm sure you will pick up most of your own questions. This way it will be a lot easier for you and both of our MFKers, and the reason is because I'm seeing multiple post of the same question here. :D

72 liters ( about 19 US gallons) is kinda small for a FH to grow up full size, the tanks must be at least 150 liters (40 Gallons) !

2. what is the normal lifespan of a FH??
on average, a cichlid have lifespan about 10 years, most of the time I see FH that had been taken good care of live about 7-8 years!
9. Anyone there who has fed ARTEMIA to their FH ????
you can feed those shrimp for small FHs but when they grow too big, I don't think they will eat that !

1. is it necessary to move these fish out of the tank, for getting the breed done ????
No but if you leave them in there is a big risk of them getting killed.
- LEMME C WHERE I CAN TAKE THE OTHER 2 CATS …….thanx

2. what is the normal lifespan of a FH??
Supposedly 2-3 years :(
- I think more than 8 years for sure…….

3. what is the best fish to breed with a FH??
Another flowerhorn, texas, or parrot of some kind
- planning to get one BP tomorrow for the job……getting the glass partition done today

4. Is there any age or a particular season in a year that they breed, (or are they always ready to do the job)
All year round, yours should be old enough to breed now or in a month or two
- does that mean that,,, the FH’s reproductive organs are fully developed within 2 months ????? please confirm this….

5. Is there no sex,,, as in sex that they do to get frys (just a logical question, always was eager to know this)
Female lays eggs and male swims over and fertilizes them
- OK
