Hey all!

I keep my guys (4) at 80 degrees. I use filter cartridges with activated carbon in them. I feed them ALL they can eat twice a day. I don't use any décor or gravel in the tanks. I change 50 percent of the water weekly. I clean the filters weekly. I don't use any aquarium salt. The only time I fast them is if I leave town.
The only problems I have is they just keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger! Kok's are HUGE!! Attitudes are huge!

They do not get sick. They do not bloat. And they do not complain!!

NOW I WILL SAY, I will NEVER buy Thai silks again! "To me" they are truly genetically screwed up fish. I've had three and couldn't keep them alive past the five inch stage. They bloat, float, stress and just quit eating for no reason. BAH!!

Hope this helps yuns!

They do have some flaws from the amount of breeding and inbreeding used to acheive the color. Its the price you have to pay sorry to hear they arent working out for you.

No problem. Live and learn.
I just got into Flowerhorns about a year ago. Started out with them (Thai's) but kept chugging along. Glad I did. There is no better fish in my book!
I currently have four. One is a 2" fry I picked up a month ago. SRT x Golden Fader
2nd is a 3.5" "coin" Bonsai SRD. Awesome fish! KOK like a ping pong ball.
3rd is a Red Dragon (I think) at about 10 inches and 14 months old.
Last but no least is a SRD at 12 inches and 15 months old.
I made an 8 minute video of all of them last night. Uploaded on you tube tonight. Waiting for it to go through. Everybody check them out and let me know what you think! Search you tube for "Lucifers Flowerhorns"

Their diet consists of frozen, thawed, shelled peas once a week. Frozen, thawed bloodworms once a week. Frozen, thawed cocktail shrimp once a week. Hikari cichlid gold (color) medium sinking pellets three times a week. Hikari cichlid staple medium floating pellets the balance of feedings. ALL pellets are pre-soaked before feeding. They will swell up to 3 times the size of dry. Happens the same way in the fish's belly! Not good!
Don't have to soak the sinking pellets as long. They tend to fall apart instead of swelling.
