yes a beautiful fish but mistreated heavily and almost used as a show piece not a living breathing animal.I kept my first one a decade ago as my friend gave me a baby he bred for free which was considered a moot quality. But I really liked him, colors were nice and fish followed my hand. Then I got few more over the time. I learned a lot through this forum and when I go see other owners, I see many who have gone crazy.
They buy foods that are 4-10x expensive, pay 700-800 for fish, want large hump as big as half the body size, don't care if fish has a fat belly or doesn't grow more than 7-8 inches, keep the in small divided tanks, add thai minerals which looks like low quality product sold at high price, many fish wound up dead as owners are clueless, believe in Chinese meds over what a actual vet says.
I still like the fish and keep him as I would have kept another cichlid.
Few that I had/have

yea I am currently having lots of fun trying to breed my female t-bar cichlid with my male keyhole cichlid. Its working out great their digging out lots of sand have created a cave to hide inThanks, I am taking best care I can of him. Learned so much here, thanks to some incredible members we have.
I just talked about current owners and craze in above post as that drives which traits sellers/breeders target and ultimately what kind of breed it becomes. I was in love with personality and looks, but I might switch to some other species next time.
