Fluidized Bed Filter Cleaning

I need to add some new media to my FBF, so I decided that I probably should give it a clean and replace the tubing. I keep a fine prefilter on it, so there isn't much junk, but there is some stuff growing above the sand. Any tips on how to get in there to get to it?

Is this a manufactured (brand/model) or a DIY FSF?

It's a Pentair Lifeguard FB300.

If your talking about the 'stuff growing above the sand' try a bottle brush or tubing / filter brush (you may have custom form (bend) the brushes) after removing the check valve an flow control. You didn't think they would make easy like a removable top did you .
