A majority of people use and recommend the Lifeguard FBF's. It is very easy to DIY though. I would recommend a sand filter similar to those used for pool applications.

Im using a FB300 on my 100g and a FB600 on my 125g. They seem to be doing a good job. Only probs so far is that I had to replace a check valve on one of them. No big deal thought just a couple of bucks at Big Als.
