fluidized bef filter question

I was given a fluidized bed filter by my friend, planning to use it.
since its been left for a while, when i rinse the fluidized bed with water. smell of rotten egg came out.
Can i use it after rinsing it through tap water and no more smell comes out?
Also how do you make sure the tubes don't pop out while in use?

Clamp the tubes with tubing clamps.

Rinse the sand, run the filter. Fluidized sand beds are awesome.
