I am making a small DIY FSBF and i talked to a guy that has used them and he said to be careful cuz the sand bed can alter PH of your tank.
Is this the case? If so will it be enogh to hurt anything?

Oh come on theres gotta be someone on here thats used them lol.

It would all have to do with the media you use. If the sand were something like crushed coral, then yes it would change your PH, but if it's non-reactive sand (chemically inert) then it should leave your PH right where it is now.

I've tried setting up a FBF before. To be honest it's really not worth the hassle. In large applications it is well worth it.

agreed, tried it didn't really see a big difference. Took it apart, still no difference.

Well i got mine up and running so we'll see how it goes, its been running for a couple days now and so far no difference in PH.

Extra aeration is necessary as the bacteria consume it and produce co2 thus lowering and changing your ph.
Degasing units are often used after water has flown through the fluidised bed filter to oxygenate the water before it is returned to the tank.

PFS does not affect the water's pH
