a few months back i bought some Arch. Spinossiimus at the ACA in texas. The fish developed this weird skin infection. it was white and it appeared to grow. it would start out looking like a sort of pimple but it would get bigger with something attacked at the end but i couldn't make out what it was. i tried everything to save these fish. hospital tank with salt, ick cure, metro, prapzipro nothing seemed to help. i eventually flushed 2 of them and put the 3rd back into my 125. HERES the thing ! Now my prized T. Aureus is developing something at the bottom back end of his top fin and its a fairly good sized white mass with what looks like something leeching out of it. it doesn't look good. he also has a red blotch below his mouth and it too looks like something is on its way out have to nail this problem and fast. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure what it is your fish are experiancing. I have had similar problems from time to time with weird external "things" on my fish that wouldn't go away. When I've tried all the usual things with out sucsess, I use formalin or dylox. THese kill everything including the bacteria in your filter. I doubt you can buy dylox but you should be able to buy "fluke tabs" from Aquatium Products which are about the same thing. Don't use them together, only try one at a time, don't use them in your display system, only in a hospital set up, be ready to do a water change if the fish respond poorly to the med. Don't know if these will fix your problem but I have cured "mystery" ailments with these products.

Good Luck....Joel

Isolate and quarantine that fish! Try to get a good look at it, catch the fish and use a magnifier if you need to. If there is a visible parasite like an anchor worm, fluke or nematode there ate now meds like dinilin, or Jungle anti-parasite medicated food available,
If it is a cyst containing a thick whitish slime instead it might be a sporozoan like Glugea, a microscope slide will show many egg shaped organisms, I don't think any one has come up with a cure for it yet, It is not often encountered but is usually fatal. All you can do is large water changes and vac your tank a couple times, then hope for the best. :(

i've isolated the fish in a hospital tank but i'm stumped as to what to treat it with. thinking about trying clout but i think i'll wait a few hours just to make sure i use the right meds
