what number do i go by when calculating the wpg

is the 2-3 wpg for fluorescent or incandescent

9W Compact Fluorescent = 40W Incandescent

should i go by 9w or 40w

You use the actual wattage for the flourescent, meaning the power consumption...not the incandescent equivalent.

i use the compact florescents and they def grow better.

also, check out the kelvin rating on the bulb. i recommend 5k or higher. a range between 6500 -10000 kelvin will give you nice bluish white light that looks a lot nicer than a reddish light that looks more suited for a reptile tank

I'd avoid incandescent because of the heat it gives off and they are inefficient.
