I just added a Fluval 405 to my existing setup and I am finding it very noisy.

I already have a Fluval 305 which is actually pretty quiet. Should there be that much noise difference between these two filters?

mines close to silent sitting on the carpet. Give it a shake and see if there is air trapped and make sure you have a good prime.

Thanks. There does seem to be quite a bit of air stuck inside it - when I move the filter some comes out.

What's the best way to ensure I have a good prime on the filter?

Well I will try and get rid of the air. If that doesn't work, I will swap the impeller and see if that makes any difference.

Any other suggestions?

Fill with water and pump till you have no bubbles coming out of the output hose. You had a 305 already though, maybe I'm not understanding what prime means. Sounds like the canister is not full though
