Hello all. I have a Fluval 404 that is working fine but making noise :irked:. The impeller is seems to be where the rattling kind of noise is coming from. Any ideas as to what to do? The shaft is not broken because I fixed that around February. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as always.

sounds like your impeller is not in the well straight and is rubbing on the side of the well. i'd try taking it out and re-aligning it. make sure there is no debris in the impeller well - no sand, no grit, etc. check the impeller for rub lines that go horizontally around the magnetic part, that will tell you if something was either in the well or the impeller was crooked. the impeller shaft may have a teensy bend to it, even though it looks straight. if all else fails, just go buy a new impeller.

I would check the impeller cover. In time, the rubber that holds the impellar shaft in place wears and does not retain shape. The impellar will then rotate slightly off center, thus making the noise.
