So I bought a 75 gallon from a local seller and it came with a Fluval 404... I have it pretty much all figured out excpet for the lever thing that locks the hoses into place in the lid (I will take pix of the piece I am talking about soon)

Anyway, this piece would not stay down and am I tryin to figure out what the purpose of this thing is and why it wont stay down!!

Gey rid of it....I am serious...It will end up burning out on you. I have had no luck with those filters. The company that makes them CONSTANTLY changes the designs of the "AQUA LOCK" system, and eventually it will not lock down...thats the problem you are having...my last and final fluval 404 has gone out on me, the impeller has burned out and melted ... You could try the HYDOR PRIME 30, or go with the EHEIM PRO II. Those would be your best bets. I currently use both kinds of those filters and love them!

Yea I can say that I am not a fan thus far... I have never planned on using it as the only form of filtration, but in addition to 2 aquaclear 110's. But if I can get this thing working I wouldnt complain

Well good luck hun!
The "aqua lock" should just snap down...It may be broken already...Is it used?

Yup its used... fun times ahead for me!! haha

you can order a new 'aqua-stop' piece for about $15. I got a used one with a broken aqua-stop...I just made some new fittings to bypass the whole thing.

I've heard a LOT of bad things about Fluvals...but I got mine (its a 404) for $30...so I figured hey why not?

Yea this one came with the tank.. 75G, with 2 powerheads, UGF, heater, lights, fluval 404 for $200

How did you bypass the whole thing, can you show my some pixof what you did??
Thanks

I can't find my camera (grrrrrr) so I can't show you what i did, sorry.

I just removed the whole aqua-stop assembly. The rubber end on the hose will slip right on to the output nozzle. The intake side is harder...I just happened to have an intake tube from a broken POS whisper 30 filter that fit right in place, so I hose-clamped the rubber tube to the intake. If you can make something fit in the intake side...I don't think it has to be water tight as I am pretty sure my DIY fitting isn't.

Thats probably kinda hard to follow. I'm a former auto technician so i have knack for making stuff work in improbable ways...my suggestion is just take your fluval down to Home Depot and browse around the plumping section...you'll probably find something that will work.

This is what you probably need to replace. Its so cheap so just order one and replace your old one.
