There's one on craigslist and was just wondering how's everyone's experience with these. For me personally I'm not a big fan of canister filters but the price on this one is pretty good.

How good is the price?

Personally, I think they suck. Mine died after less than 2 years. That has been my experience with every Fluval filter I've owned...worklife less than 2 years.

It'd have to be pretty darned cheap for me to jump on one.

I have 2 404's and a 305. Never had a problem with them and got them all used, so they've been around the block a few times but they work perfectly and nearly silently. 405 is functionally the same as the old 404, so you can be sure it's a good filter. Some people may have gotten a lemon so they don't like them but search the boards for opinions, it's a good filter. $100 is a great price for a new 405. I say go for it.

I have a 404 and a 405. The 404 water seal isn't that great anymore. It leaks from time to time and I have to reset it until it stops leaking. I've had that for about 5 years now. I haven't had any problems with my 405, but it's been only a year.
