fluval 405 filter floss

I was thinking about filling my fluval 405 with filter floss but still unsure.........can anyone tell me how often you have to clean or replace it also does it help clarify water?

This is just a back up filter i use along side my fluval fx5 that is filled with BIO MAX and SEACHEM PURIGEN.

Depends on how messy your tank is. Not much help I know, sorry.

I used it in an XP3 in a 1-2" layer and it needed to be cleaned weekly.
But it was a pleco tank, and they're not the cleanest fish.
It works really well, and like most mechanical filtration that does a great job, it needs cleaned a lot.
