I posted in the DIY section because not all ppl have the DIY way of thinking.

All my canisters are Rena xp 3-4 canisters. But I got my wife a real nice almost brand new 75g tank and it came with a FLUVAL 405 canister. And its odd to me. It has 4 "small" media baskets and some sort of long vertical 4 sponge holders. I dont know how to describe it. I hope someone knows what Im trying to describe.

Is there any filter sponge/pad ideas I can replace it with? Other then the standard ones made for them 4 vertical slots? Im thinking Id just take out them pads and just use my current Poly-Floss stuff in the baskets. LOL

What do ya'll think or know?

Keep the sponges where they are suppose to be and just add more media to the trays, then call it a day.

With regular water changing habits, there is no need for poly stuffing or other crap like that.

Make sure you only rinse out the sponges (2) at a time. The bacteria will still be on the other (2). At least thats what I was told, and thats what I do.

You dont ever throw them away or replace them?

I believe there is also beneficial bacteria on the pads. They never really seem to get gunked up bad, and I have it on a way overstocked 55 with mbuna.
