Fluval 405 issue...

When I bought my 125 gallon tank off of CL it came with a Fluval 405 and I never set it up because I ending up buying a Fluval FX5. Now I wanna throw this canister on there as a backup and for more bio since I have a heavy stock in my tank.

Anyway, the filter came with the prime handle broken off so I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on how to get it working. If I just fill it and plug it in would it would self prime? I also need to get the gasket too hopefully my LFS has em in stock so I can set this up tomorrow.
 
You can get the replacement handle on amazon, along with the impeller shaft and cover(both can easily break if you're not careful). As for priming, no it won't self prime so your best bet will either direct the output from a powerhead into the intake or start sucking on the output to get the prime going. Personally I think the second way is much easier, but I know there are many people who are opposed to getting tank water in their mouths.
 
thank you so much! My aqua stop valve is good it's just the damn prime handle is snapped off so I don't think I can pull it up to prime....well see. I have no problem getting some tank water in my mouth (happened many of times doing water changes lol) so I'll try that.
 
the prime handles can be found on amazon and other stores if you look hard enough. You can fill the canister with water then turn it upside down(with hoses attached and aquastop valve open) above the tank to prime it
