Hello everybody !
Well my fluval 405 isnt doing much in my tank ... theres many small particals flying around in the water but it can't suck it ... It seems like it doesnt sucks anything at all ! Is it a 405 issue ? should I do something ?
I got a 80gal tank,
Buying a new one might be an option ... Eheim ? fx5 ?

thanks :)

Is water coming out of the outtake (and with good flow)? If so, then your 405 is working and it should be sucking up plenty. If indeed it is working, but, you have an excess of floating particulate matter, then it may just be the current in your tank and "where" your intake is located. You can move it to a different spot that may be more conducive to capturing the floating debris.

The fluval isnt a great filter to begin with. Extremely annoying to prime up, the impeller covers break way to often and easily. Plus the design isnt great if you ask me. I would upgrade to an eheim but thats just me. Always good to have over filtration then not enough.

Well I Don't know if they sell Eheim where I live ... I'll call my local pet store . or Can we buy eheim online ?

Don't follow the hype on this. Although I too like Eheim better, there is absolutely nothing bad about the filter you currently have. I have five Eheim filters and four Fluval filters. I like them all!!! I have two 405 filters (which is why I responded to your post). It "is" as I previously responded. Is your 405 showing good flow on the outtake?

If you want to spend money for the sake of spending money, then by all means you can pursue an Eheim filter as the other responder suggested. If you honestly want to investigate what is going on with the Fluval 405 you currently have, then answer the question I posed to you.

The canister it self of my 405 was quite dirty (sponges and filters) I think I'll have to replace some parts like the sponges . The flow is better now , but the water is a bit foggy

No need to replace the sponges. Just thoroughly squeeze them out in a bucket of tank water when when you are doing your next water change. Fill a bucket half-way, then squeeze the sponges out in them to get the gunk out of the sponges. It is usually best to do this about two or three times (each time with fresh tank water) to do a credible job at getting the sponges clean. Of course, you'll clean out the rest of the filter at this time as well (no sense being half-***ed about it, right???).

For the record, the need to periodically clean your filter(s) applies to just about every filter on the market. Eheim (nor any other vendor) does not have anything magical to get you around this requirement.

Save your money. Periodically clean out your filters. Enjoy!!!

I have the 06 series and love the filter works great, I honestly think Hagen has tryed to address allot of it's past issues with the 06.
