I just found out today that the 405 isn't working for my 150gal tank (I have a 405 and 205 for filtration) I opened it up and noticed that the impeller shaft (white ceremic shaft) was broken...went to lfs, bought the shaft, stuck it in, started to work-but no cigar! It sounds like its working, but nothing is going on...could it be possible that the magnetic impeller piece is now messed up causing it not to work cause thats the only thing I can think of at the moment! Also, will the 205 and a whisper air pump for 100 gal work well enough to hold my arow, rtc and ornate the night? Is this something I should really worry about overnight cause I'm at work till midnight!

thanks in advance

ya it will last for the night and at least a few days. just dont over feed. just bring the 405 to a petsmart ot petco and tell them it stopped woking and have them give you a new one. they will return it no questions asked.

Check if there are any ridges scraped into the magnet or the walls of the impeller chamber, run your finger around the inside of the impeller chamber to see if there are any scratches. Make sure the ceramic impeller shaft is sitting in a little rubber nipple at the bottom of the impeller chamber and pushed snugly into the hole of the impeller cover when you close it. also there is a round opening running down the side of the impeller chamber that has a hollow insert, make sure the insert is not clogged. Before you start the filter, make sure it is completely void of any air. When you plug it in, if it doesn't start right away, pull the plug and put it back in a few times. Often the rapid stopping and starting of the filter can knock it back into alignment. Sorry if you tried all of this already.

so last night i stayed up and figured out that it was a combination of 2 things- first thanks tommydeal-i did notice that the magnetic part of the impellar was worn out, and the flat round cover with 2 click in clamps wasnt pushed down all the way...so this morning i replaced the impellar, snapped the round piece down, and it works like new now!!!

time to watch the fish!

awesome, glad you were able to fix it.
