fluval 405 problem help?

i just recently got a fluval 405 from a friend of mines...this isnt the new version.....i put all new media in tho this bad boy...but its not working? any ideas? btw, you cant spin the empeller fully by finger it stops rotating half way..

also, when i plug it in it doesnt make a suction sound? any ideas?
 
Propellers usually only spin halfway like that. It should spin freely if you hold the black part though.
This is a hard question. Try disessmbling EVERYTHING and give it a good wash in hot water. If it doesnt work then, your friend gave you a beat Fluval.
 
try cleaning the impeller housing or check if anything is broken
