This morning I heard my Fluval 405 making some odd noise. I check it out and it is no longer working although the motor sounds like it is running. I try taking it apart and making sure there are no obstructions or anything obvious, put it back together and it starts working although a very weak output.....then stops again. I pick up a new impeller and try that. It is working for now but the old impeller seemed fine. What goes wrong with impellers and why do they need replaced?

My one snapped so I glued the impeller fan back to the body, i don't know why it happened :D

Was the old impeller slimy? Back when I had an emperor 400 the ouput would slow when every so often from slime.

Not really. I have had to replace them in emperors before, although the damage to them is mainly due to carbon or something like that getting in there and damaging the impeller. I'm not sure why they fail other then direct damage? Also ther was no output not just slowed.

Call hagen. All hagen products come with a 2 year guarantee here, it might be the same in your neck of the woods. They will also run you through probably causes and fixes.
