I am pretty sure I will be getting a 75 in the near future, and so I am planning filtration stuff. I can get a fluval 404 on ebay for about $85. Do you think it would be worth spending an extra 40$+ for an XP3 or eheim filter? I have a 404 already and I think it works great, but If another brand would be better, I may get that.

thanks

I have a few XP3s and a 404. I don't really like either of them, but I can say that I like the XP3s much more.

xP3s are the best canister ive ever owned.
and they VERY recently cam out with the xp4.:)

xp4 and fx5 are top filter for me...but im sure eheim is good too.

I'd say go with the 404, its a great filter and thats a great price if its new. i have an xp3, 404, and 405. i find they both have there ups and downs, but IMO the 404/405 is the better filter.

I prefer the XP3, although I have a couple that have develop leaks from the o rings on the intake and output tubes. I'm sure the fluval can be just as effective. The filters are going to be dependant on what media you put in them.

You want me to buy an FX5 for a 75 gallon?

...although they are only $175 on ebay.

Is it worth spending extra money on an XP3, or should I just buy a Fluval 404? I am getting the tank this weekend.
