I recently ordered a Fluval 405 because I got a real good deal on it.
I used to have a 404 that constantly leaked and drove me crazy.

Has Fluval corrected this problem with the 405 or do you know of a work around?

Thanks!

I have 2 404s.... I don't ever remember them leaking....

Although, I do recall reading, I think from the Fluval site that the last editions of the 404 were basically the 405. I remember it saying something like... " the 404 had so many different modifications to it that by the end it was very different then the first model.." Of course, I was paraphrasing there...

I may have had 2 of these because I can't tell the difference between the two except for some styling... I would bet you may have had an older 404...

BTW - Where did it leak from...?

Thanks for the response.

It leaked around the main seal at the top.
I tried replacements, and sealer which helped but I could always count on a little puddle every evening when I got home.

Probably just a lemon.
I'm looking forward to the new one.

Mine sometimes will be hard to close... I would just wet the O ring with some saliva and it would just seat right down.... NEVER had a problem with one leaking... the 405 is very good there too...!

But I have been having a major problem with the impeller well covers and I looked at all of them and they all crack in the same place... the larger clip just over the gray rubber on the rim. Sometimes it can be used and then other times it alows the shaft to cock and you get the rattling sound... which will ruin the impeller over time...

I have two 404s. Both work fine. The 405 is almost identical, except the hoses attach to the tank differently and the color isn't the same. I think the strainer is also different; no big changes though.

I have two 405's been running for about two years with no trouble at all.
