Im new to mfk and i am excited because im about to set up my first 55 gal tank. i just unboxed my new fluval 405 and i was wondering what would be the best setup for the media boxes. thanks alot!
as you probably know it came with carbon and bio rings but i have read some bad things about leaving carbon in the filter for too long. by scrubbies you mean sponges, or what?
Nylon lil pot scrubbers. Usually neon in colors. I do not use carbon unless im pulling meds. Id rather have biological media in its place. I wash the sponges or replace them frequently.
alright thanks! i will try that out. i thought about getting a layer of bio balls but idk if they would be any good in a canister because i know they work better in wet/dry or sump filters.
so the media of choice would be like a polishing sponge? and where would that go. i have seen some people say to put the things like the sponge on top and some say on bottom. where have you (or heard of) had the best results
