I have a 125 gallon with SA cichlids and an FX5. I bought a Fluval 406 to replace the Eheim 2215 as a second filter on the tank. My question, I set the 406 up and the priming didn't work at all. So I detached the hoses and took a cup and filled the filter up with water and then attached everything and ran the filter for 10 or 15 seconds at a time getting rid of air until it started running continuously. I did the 10-15 second thing maybe 5 or 6 times. Now it is running very well.
So the priming thing did not work at all for me. Sounds like a lot of people have this issue. Could it be that my intake hose runs at a diagonal from the top of the tank to the opposite top of the stand and then down to the filter? The directions say make sure the hoses are in a vertical line with the filter. I guess now I could redo the hoses so both filters and their hoses are more of a vertical line. Should I make the time to do that? Right now I have The intake of the 406 paired with the output of the FX5 at one end and the intake for the FX5 paired with the output of the 406 at the other end. So you see I'm crossing hoses etc.
Any advice very much appreciated.
