I am using 5 Litre Ehiem substrate Pro, 3 Litre Lava rocks, 30 scubbies, and 5 gallons of bio balls in my sump tank.
I am going to take out all the bio balls in my sump tank because I have heard that bio balls are not good to submerse. Replace the new bio media as the chamber is limited space and I want to improve bio filtration.
Which one should I buy? BioMax or Ehiem Substrate Pro? or More scubbles?

Thanks

I would add more Ehiem Substrate Pro. They're expensive but provide lots of surface area.

Neither. If it ain't broke don't fix it. More likely than not you already have more surface area than you need.

:iagree:

Assuming this is for your 180, 5 liters of Substrat Pro should be plenty of surface area for bio.

Agreed. 5L of of effi Pro is alot of media...and $$$$ You'll probly need more than 5L to replace the bioballs. I think if BB will grow on it and stay on it than any porous media will work fine...even lava rock(small grade of course). Save your money and put in a UV or....

You have way more than you need already. You might as well just take the money you would spend on more and buy instant lottery tickets.

^this.

Personally... I would increase mechanical filtration...

As thorough mechanical filtration improves the efficiency of bio media... and typically mechanical filtration on sumps are less than ideal...
