I have had my E300 for about a month. It's worked superbly. I set it at 78 degrees and the green light has been on, as it should be. But last night, I noticed that the light turned red and the heater temperature showed 80 degrees. I clicked the orange lever to reduce the temperature back to 78. I went to bed and woke up this morning and saw that the red light is still on and the temperature is still at 80. I have read the intruction sheet and don't have any problems with it. Am I doing something wrong or is this a heater malfunction?:nilly:

Red means that your water is warmer than the temperature the heater is set for. Blue means that it is colder. The color of the display is not indicative of the state the heater, rather it reflects the temperature of the water.

It's purpose is to alert you to an 'abnormal' water condition.

Blue= water is cold
Red= water is hot
Green- good

What is your ambient house temp?

Also do you have another thermometer in the tank to know what the actual water temp is?

I understand everything you stated. I apologize for the misunderstanding, but my original question is: How do I get the water temp down? I clicked the heater's temp control and reset it at 76. Why has it not gone down to 76 degrees?

my house temp is 80 in my office and 78 in the livingroom, where the tank is located. i do have a thermometer on the tank, which reads 80.

You arent going to make your water cooler by adjusting your heater. Its not the heater that is heating the water, its most likely the temperature of the house or high-intensity lighting.

Your heater can only make heat, if you need to cool your water you need a chiller, or more likely a small fan blowing across the top of your sump or tank. It will cause some evaporation and reduce the temp.

Is the tank in front of a window, receiving lots of sunlight?

i thought that the heater has a thermostat that allows it to regulate the water temp by not coming on if the water temp is rising above the set temperature. or if the water temperature was lower than the set temp, it would come on to raise the temp. i assumed it would raise and lower itself just as the thermostat in our home heating/ac systems.

Phillydog, your heater can not obviously lower the water temp which I believe you understand.

What I think you need to do is pull the heater out of the tank and put it in your bathtub.

1. Set heater at 78.
2. Add cold water to tub and the heater should turn blue and you should be able to feel the heater giving off heat.
3. Check what the temp on the heater says...is it water temp or the temp the heater is set to.

4. Empty the tub and add water hotter than 80.
5. Insure the heater turns red and see what the temp on the heater says. Is it water temp or temp the heater is set to?
6. Insure the heater is not giving off heat.
6. Start adding cool water to get the temp under 80 and insure the heater is giving off heat and than check what the temp reading is.

The real question is the temp that is shown, is it the heater setting or the temp of the water.
